EcoLeaks’ first publications spark mass protests across Mendoza province (Argentina)

Unprecedented numbers of people have taken to the streets and carried out road blockades throughout Mendoza province in the weeks following our publication of the secret government report revealing contamination of aquifer by fracking, and the revolving door and conflict of interests between regulatory agencies and oil companies to suppress their environmental damage from the public view.

Massive protests, some numbering over 10,000 people, are spreading throughout the province demanding and immediate halt to fracking in Mendoza. This has prompted to several congressmen to introduce seven draft laws to ban fracking at the province Legislature, where over 90,000 signatures have been submitted with the same goal. A Facebook group created by EcoLeaks as a means to spread information and connect people has reached almost 43,000 members and become the largest environmental group in the country:
